School Sponsorships
We currently care for approximately 120 children from preschool through primary school to secondary school, which students can complete after 11th grade with the intermediate school leaving certificate (O-Level Exam) or after 13th grade with the university entrance qualification (A-Level Exam).
The sponsorship fee for preschool and primary school (up to grade 7) is currently €260 for day students and €430 for boarding students per year. The fee for secondary school students, which are always boarding schools, is €490 annually. These fees cover tuition (for lessons and two meals a day, three meals a day for boarding students), as well as school uniforms, sweaters, notebooks, pens, laundry detergent, and toiletries.
It is very important to us that the sponsored children in Uganda receive highly personalized and individual support. To this end, members of our association travel to Uganda at least once a year at their own expense. In the intervening years, a group of local volunteers provides support. We know each child and family personally and regularly monitor their progress, both at home and at school. We are happy to share this information with our sponsors upon request.
Even though the need is enormous, the sponsorship program of Miteinander für Uganda e.V. is unfortunately limited due to our volunteer capacity. Therefore, we can only accept new children into the program when others successfully leave. Selecting sponsored children requires careful consultation with our local contacts. For this reason, new sponsored children are added only once or twice a year. The most important criterion for selecting children is always their individual circumstances. All the children come from families living in extreme poverty. Many of them are also half-orphans or full orphans.
We strive to keep primary school children with their families whenever possible, as long as the commute and home situation allow. Therefore, students in grades 1 through 5 only live in the boarding school in exceptional hardship cases. Students in grades 6 and 7, as well as all those in secondary school, are always housed in the boarding school because this provides them with better living and learning conditions (e.g., well-lit rooms after 6:00 p.m., their own bed, no field work). They only return home during school holidays.
By sponsoring a child's schooling, you will enable a child we have selected for you to receive a good education. You will receive a letter and a current photo of your sponsored child once a year. We are also happy to facilitate direct communication with your sponsored child through letters. Naturally, we will keep you informed of any upcoming changes, such as when your sponsored child changes schools.
