University Scholarship
Due to the general disadvantages faced by rural Uganda's population caused by poverty, only a small number of high school graduates with A-Level qualifications achieve the necessary qualifications for university studies. Even those who do succeed are usually unable to afford the high costs of university education.
To open up more opportunities, we offer our very best sponsored children the chance to complete a scholarship-funded degree up to a Bachelor's degree after school, instead of vocational training.
We ensure that young people only study at universities that offer a state-recognized degree. We leave the choice of subjects up to the school graduates themselves. Unlike in Germany, however, their choice of subjects is already limited by the subjects they have taken in their final years of school. For example, only someone who has completed biology can begin studying medicine.
After graduating from high school, students apply to selected universities in the country for a place to study their chosen subject. It then takes some time before they receive a response informing them whether the university has offered them a place and, if so, in which subject. All students must move to one of Uganda's major cities for their studies, where they live either in a small shared apartment or in a student residence.
The income of qualified academics, for example those working as teachers or engineers, is many times higher than average. People in these professions often support an entire extended family and, in addition, offer paid work to those with lower qualifications.
By sponsoring a student, you enable your sponsored children, who have achieved excellent A-Level results, to study at a university. The cost of studying in Uganda is approximately €1,500 to €2,500 per year (depending on the university). These costs are usually shared by several sponsors, so sponsorship is possible with an annual contribution starting at €100.
The annual fee covers tuition, rent, and living expenses, allowing students to focus on their studies. They only need to cover minor incidental expenses or personal desires; we encourage students to take on small jobs during semester breaks, which is easily manageable for young people.
Regardless of the amount, each sponsorship contribution is assigned to a specific student. Upon request, you, as a student sponsor, will receive updates about your sponsored student and their academic progress.
We are proud that some of our sponsored children have already completed their studies and are working successfully as teachers, accountants and in other professions.
